VMworld 2016 Europe – sharpen your network security skills

VMworld Europe is getting tantalisingly close, with just six weeks to go until we take over Barcelona’s Fira Gran Via. As is the case each year, we’ll be running a number of dedicated tracks based on the solutions you’re most interested in. To help you choose the right sessions for you from these tracks, we’ll be running a series of blogs with our top tips and recommendations.

First up, we’re looking at those sessions that will be most beneficial to you if you’re looking to become an expert in all things networking and security while in Barcelona. There’s a range of sessions – covering topics suitable for beginners just starting out on their network virtualization journey through to those who are NSX aficionados and just want to top up their skills. You can see all the sessions here, but take a look below for our top picks:

Enabling Automated Network & Security Services with NSX and vRealize

NSX enables organizations to streamline network and security service provisioning within the Data Center. vRealize Automation integrates with NSX, providing out of the box automated provisioning of different network types, plus security and load balancing services. There are several key use cases for this integration and in addition these capabilities can be extended by leveraging vRA components such as the Advanced Services Design and the Extensibility Framework. This session is focused on real world use cases for NSX and vRA, plus vRA extensibility to consume advanced NSX network services.

Day: Monday 17th October

Time: 4pm – 5pm

NSX Customer Panel

In this customer panel, you’ll be able to hear from existing NSX customers about how they’ve deployed NSX solution and the benefits they’re seeing.

Day: Wednesday 19th October

Time: 12.30pm – 1.30pm

Introduction to Security with VMware NSX

This session will discuss the need for network virtualization and the problems that NSX solves, providing an overview of the key use-cases, as well as an introduction to the rich NSX partner ecosystem. This is a high-level session to prime you on NSX and point you to further sessions that dive deeper.

Day: Tuesday 18th October

Time: 5pm – 6pm

Amadeus’ Journey Building a Software-Defined Data Center with VMware Integrated OpenStack and NSX

Amadeus IT Group, a multinational IT provider for global travel and tourism with over €3 billion in revenue, undertook a transformational project to modernize its infrastructure. In this session we will go through some of the drivers for the project (building a new hotel guest reservation system using Red Hat OpenShift platform as a service) and the technology choices evaluated, including VMware Integrated OpenStack and NSX. We will then share the high-level design and best practices Amadeus implemented and learned from this project.

Day: Thursday 20th October

Time: 9am – 10am

If you’ve not yet registered for VMworld, you can do so here. Join us later in the week when we’ll be running through the best sessions for EUC.
