Great news at VMware today, with congratulations due to our very own Karen Egan! Following yesterday’s blog post, we’re delighted to announce that Karen was named “International Leader of the Year” at the 2015 FDM everywoman in technology awards in London, an initiative which champions the advancement of women in technology and STEM careers.
Karen, who is Senior Director Technical Support EMEA at VMware in Cork, was chosen for her outstanding contribution to VMware and her work as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, which encourages girls from a young age to get involved, and consider future careers in, technology.
Karen was thrilled with her award win and hopes that awards such as the FDM everywoman in Technology Awards will encourage other women in the industry to come forward and showcase their achievements: “I’m delighted to receive the award as recognition of the work I’ve undertaken with VMware. The calibre of the nominees across the board was immense – it was amazing to be part of a celebration of women in IT, encouraging young girls and budding female IT professionals, and exciting to see such talented girls in the rising star category.
It was inspiring to see so many men and women at the awards last night. It’s absolutely essential that we continue to promote the role of women in the industry, and I hope that in the future the essential insights and information that can be shared by women in the sector will mean we won’t need women-only awards – they will be stars regardless of their gender in a productive and diverse workplace.”
Karen also thanked VMware for its contribution to her career, and called for more women to consider a career in IT from an early age, “VMware has been fantastic for my career – it’s an open company which listens to the opinions of its entire staff, whether they are male or female. You are given opportunities based on your performance alone.”
Congratulations again to Karen and thank you for all your hard work – the award is very well deserved!
