With technology on our side we no longer need to pack up a suitcase and head out of the office for weeks in order to stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies shaping how we do business today. It is with this that we talk to Ian Jansen van Rensburg, Senior Systems Engineering Manager at VMware Sub Saharan Africa as to why you should register for the upcoming VMware Online Technology Forum.
Q: So Ian tell us what is the VMware Online Technology Forum?
A: In short, the VMware Online Technology Forum has been developed as a means to bring our customers and partners a snapshot of how we at VMware believe that the latest software-defined technologies, approaches and industry best practice can help you drive IT success in your business.
Q: What will I hope to hear about if I listen in to the Forum?
A: We will be using the Forum as a mechanism by which to unpack key messages and understanding of VMware’s Software-Defined Data Centre, Hybrid Cloud and Business Mobility portfolio. How these solutions can help deliver applications and services at speed and scale, while using the power of software to move faster than ever before, and with greater efficiency.
Q: Why is it important for the Sub-Saharan Africa market to tune in?
A: As residents of Africa we often feel overlooked as part of the “dark continent” to whom information is fed to when it is already stale. With the VMware Online Technology Forum being online, it is instant and it is accessible by all, which means you will be at the forefront of the messaging, not getting it “second hand” or a couple of weeks later, as is the usual standard for us.
Q: Will it be relevant to the local (African) market?
A: Absolutely. The cloud, SDDC, EUC and mobility messaging that VMware has to bring to the market is critical to Africa and we are seeing a host of African customers seriously considering a number of these technologies for their business. I believe the forum will give you a first hand view of exactly what we have to offer.
Q: Ok great so what can we really expect?
A: The forum will be made up of a series of technology updates we’re making, starting with the industry’s foundation for hybrid cloud and vSphere 6. We will also be hosting a number of technology deep dives, and allow attendees to join in on self-paced hands-on labs to understand more about the technologies driving IT efficiency and business advantage.
Q: Who can we expect to hear from?
A: Some of the speakers on the day will include VMware technical experts Joe Baguley, CTO, EMEA; Duncan Epping, Chief Technologist; and Mike Laverick, Senior Cloud Infrastructure Evangelist, all of which will be on hand for a live Q&A.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: It is free!
Q: When is it? And where do I sign up?
A: The event is a once off so you must be sure to diarise it now, for Wednesday 15 April 2015, 09:00 – 13:00 GMT / 10:00 – 14:00 CET.

Q: And finally Ian – Are you going to be there?
A: Without a doubt. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
