VMware vForum Johannesburg is around the corner and in order to give you a better idea of what you should expect from the event we caught up with Regional Director, southern Africa, Ravi Bhat and ask him why he thinks you should attend and what he believes will be the key take away from the event.
Q: Why should partners and customers attend vForum 2014?
A: There three main reasons for partners and clients to attend vForum 2014. Firstly, VMware being the leading virtulization and cloud technology provider in the world and in Africa, has recently launched a full stack of fully integrated software-defined data centre technologies, vForum will provide a platform to showcase this capability and provide clients a view of how it will provide a significant cost saving mechanism, both at a networking and s storage level.
Secondly we will be showcasing the groundbreaking end user computing capabilities we now have in the mobile device management arena following our acquisition of Airwatch. Lastly, and critically for the region, we will communicate our new partner incentive as well as enablement programme for Africa.
Q: What are you personally looking forward to as a highlight of this year’s event?
A: As this is the premium local VMware event for the year, I am looking forward to seeing our clients share with their peers and potential clients, the cost savings they have experienced on their journey to the virtualization of their business as well as their foray into the cloud.
Q: If you were to suggest your customers attend one session what would that be?
A: That would be the NSX session, which will showcase our software-defined networking offering, and provide a view of how moving towards a software centric organisation is not limited to the data centre, but is pervasive throughout the business.
Q: In your own words what are you hoping to take away from the event personally?
A: I want our clients in Africa to experience that we are no longer just a virtualization company but are here to assist clients to transform their enterprise into a fully-fledged software-defined business.
Q: Looking ahead – how do you think VMware’s new vision will help shape the future of IT?
A: VMware is going to revolutionise the way companies look at ITaaS. With the introduction of positively disruptive technologies such as NSX, vSAN and Airwatch we hope to bring a significant amount of agility, ease of use and cost savings into the IT environments of our customers today.
